Answers to the things students find tricky — proving it's you, setting up a new or second phone, and getting back in if you're stuck. More topics will be added here over time.

Proving it's really you

Every scan needs proof the phone is genuinely yours — so no one can mark you present from a phone you've never set up. You prove it one of two ways:

Face ID / fingerprint — the quick, secure way. One tap and you're done. Nothing about your face or fingerprint ever leaves your phone.

6-digit PIN — used on phones without Face ID / fingerprint, and as your backup if a phone ever stops recognizing you.

Adding your account to a second (or new) phone

Want to scan from a second phone, or moved to a new one? You can — but here's the part that surprises people: each phone needs its own secure-scan setup.

Your Face ID / fingerprint key (your “passkey”) is locked to the exact phone it was created on — for security, it can't be copied or moved to another phone. So a second phone needs its own brand-new passkey, set up on that phone. Logging in on the new phone is not enough on its own.

On the second / new phone:

  1. Log in with your account as normal.
  2. Open the scanner. Because this phone has no passkey yet, you'll be asked to verify it's you — enter your 6-digit PIN.
  3. Your device may tell you “there is no passkey saved for this website.” That's expected on a new phone — just close that prompt.
  4. You'll then see “Set up secure scan on this phone” — tap it and confirm with this phone's Face ID / fingerprint. This creates the new passkey.
  5. Done — this phone can now mark attendance, and your first phone still works too.

⚠️ Logging in by itself does not let you scan. A new phone can sign in, but it can't mark attendance until you finish the “set up secure scan” step to create its own passkey.

You can have up to 2 phones set up at once. Need a slot? Remove an old phone first (see below).

Which screen will I see?

It depends on whether you still have another phone set up:

  • You still have another phone set up — you do everything from the scanner on the new phone (the steps above). You're just adding a fresh passkey for this phone; you won't see the full setup screen.
  • None of your phones are set up (you're new, or all your devices were removed or reset) — you'll land on the setup screen instead, which walks you through choosing a PIN and setting up secure scan from scratch.

If your phone isn't recognized

If you clear your browser, switch phones, or it's just been a while, you might be asked to verify it's you. Enter your 6-digit PIN, then follow the prompt to set up secure scan again on that phone.

Forgot your PIN? You can change it any time from Settings → Change PIN, as long as you're on a phone that's still set up.

Removing a phone

Go to Settings → Manage devices to remove a phone you no longer use. This frees a slot so you can set up a different one.

Removing a phone never affects your attendance — your history stays exactly as it is, and you can set the phone up again any time.

Lost your phone or locked out?

If you've lost access to every phone you set up — and can't recover with your PIN — ask your instructor. They can reset your devices so you can start fresh on a new phone. Your attendance records are always kept.
